This strip used to be about the “clever crew of shipboard malcontents, incompetents, and laggards”. Originally there was no “Louie”, and the strip was one of those that could have you laughing, with tears in your eyes, it was so funny. I think Chip is having writer’s block and has added silly characters that aren’t part of the original formula. I hope he finds his way back. This used to be my favorite comic. I have his original paperback “Overboard” from 1991 and it is a classic.

I thought Overboard was a good strip, until Chip started to expand the cast of characters.
Then it became a great strip.
Morning JFri & Drystyha!

I agree with you, Doc, Almost every character that Chip adds improves the strip. I love Raymond!

With you all the way, Snagglepuss; but you will be pilloried for your “heresies.” Some of the characters, I feel, demonstrate the strip has in some respects run its course; and the themes they follow are not entirely original or fresh. I know, I know, I’ll be pilloried too, but after all, it’s a comments section, not admiration only.

I have to throw my 2 cents in Chip, I have been reading for the last 5 years and this is my favorte strip. The characters are great. I love the cat on the green ship and the impending war with the mice. Raymond and Louie brings tears when I compare them to my two dogs. Toby and Cooper which are Golden retriever and a weiner puppy. They are Louie at the grill. Thanks Chip and to all you fans. Enjoy your posts.

Chip, Overboard is a great strip. It’s Far Side + Mutts, but without the slap-across-the-face sentimentality of the latter. Keep ‘em coming.

This one was good. Nothing wrong with the mice.

Overboard is right there with my favorites of all time. I laugh from deep down at some of them, and am flooded with memories when Louie does what Louie does best.
My money is on the sea monster eating the cat after the mice give him payola.
