The clues are in the panels. Opus has gone to a warmer, better place. The empty chair with the dog on the back also shows that the three ladies have also taken the dog with them. In the final panel of the final strip, I imagine Opus meeting Calvin and Hobbs and all the others who have gone to a better, warmer place where they can simply be themselves and not what everyone wants them to be.

The strip has crossed over into the Twilight Zone. Everyone knows they are only in a comic strip.

So, where is Opus? Apparently he let the little mutt, did it ever even have a name?, go with the girls in the last strip. So, where is Opus?

I am going to miss you. At least I still have my Billy and the Boingers poster to keep me company.

I’m hoping it’ll be back to Milo’s Meadow with the whole gang. I always look forward to Opus on Sundays…now who to look forward to?? Until then I still have many books to reread and many strips still stuck on my ‘fridge!
Opus your presence will be greatly missed. Thank you Mr. Breathed for the many years of laughter and thought-provoking wit. Please consider coming back again, real soon!

All of Mr. Breathed comics have been among my favorites. I cheered when he brought back Opus - even if it was only on Sundays!. Mr. B is a truly talented, witty, and creative cartoonist. His work will be greatly missed. I’m glad I bought all the books from waaaay back when.

    A sigh and a tear……

Why is Opus going away? I love Berkeley’s work. There aren’t many good comics left any more.
Doonesbury and Get Fuzzy are my
    favorites now.

Opus is going away because we are going to have a democrat in office and Berkeley can’t make fun of democrats.

For the first time since it was discontinued, he again placed this strip in BLOOM COUNTY. The Bloom County Animal Shelter. We, reader and author, have come full circle.

I hope he doesn’t end up inside his own anxiety closet. Or in the public library trying to explain why he hasn’t returned Green Eggs and Ham
