What a beautiful example of a childlike faith!

And why not? After all, the Church finally decided cremation is OK because an omnipotent being would certainly be able to put all the pieces back together on Judgment Day.

No, @pshearer, the Church never thought that God could not “put all the pieces together”. It’s just that cremation is no longer used as a statement of disbelief in the resurrection of the body, so there is no longer a need for a law to forbid it.

    1) You seem to be more up on Catholic doctrine than I am, so thanks. I never knew that was their view of cremation. But I never have claimed infallibility.
    2) And speaking of infallibility, it you use the Reply button, it will spell my screen name correctly.

Ruthie is probably familiar with the Book of Common Prayer:

“Almighty God…you know our necessities before we ask and our ignorance in asking: Have compassion on our weakness…”
    — Proper 11

Good theology, Ruthie! Romans 8:26, 27.

Pagans would burn their dead, or leave them out for the animals to eat. So for the longest time Christianity was against it.

This is a great old Jewish story! Alef, Beis, Gimmel, instead of ABC in that version, of course!
