Might be a gender mixed person. But usually the doctor will ‘assign’ gender. Sometimes they get it wrong.

She got the correct answer for the question she asked. I used to have to correct my kid’s elementary school teachers’ assignments when the teacher was ignorant of the meanings of “or” and “and.” (Or the meanings of “or” or “and.”)

Somewhat pedantic — a simple comma after “boy” would “correct” the meaning, particularly for spoken language. Who is really going to ask full-out, “Are you a boy or are you a girl?”?
I think the phrasing is ambiguous at most, and not at all outside of deliberate humor.
