Modern cars are so complicated, so only a professional can fix them. Classics are better.

The shade tree mechanic has morphed to a teenager with a laptop.

A bad fuel pump is not audible. (Neither is a good one.)

I have to enlarge it all the time too. It is really tiny. Oh well.

If it was the fuel pump, the car wouldn’t start. To ensure that you don’t damage your fuel pump, keep your gas tank above the quarter mark and change the filter when necessary.

You can buy a hand-held device to read out the codes, but sometimes the indicated problem is the result of another problem. It is useful anyway, and I keep a code reader in my car.

    I don’t think that’s Claire, I think it’s some woman at Claire’s Dad’s dealership.

A bad fuel pump will be audible in my experience. But if her car is a late model, it will be easy to scan for codes.

If Claire’s dad is a Toyota dealership, then he’s filthy rich, but if this is a Chrysler dealership it might be a different story. But Claire’s dad seems to run a loose operation, discussing car repairs in the new car showroom. They would usher her into the service center to talk repairs normally.
