We’ve all been through this. In fact we go through it every day. We all know how tough, but also funny, it can be, as we move through life’s situations if we take our knocks with good humor. And we know also how very rewarding it can be when we actually occasionally get things right.

Well… OK… I admit to being a little confused… croissant is a sweet patisserie and if you require sugar in your chocolate, you add it yourself. I’ve never heard a waiter, in Paris or anywhere, ask “sucré ou non-sucré ?”, unless he’s being pretentious… ahhhh!!!

@Prof danglais
I vote for pretentious since Claire asked for it in anglais, Monsieur Prof d’anglais.

Prof, that was my first thought as well. He might have asked if she wanted whipped cream or not; that would have made sense.

Always choose ‘non’. You can always add what’s missing later.

Sounds insane, but it might be good. I’ve seen people dip their fries in a chocolate shake on more than a few occassions.

Reminds me of trying to make my way through Vienna with a phrasebook. Fortunately, my wife’s relatives were usually with us to handle translations where necessary.

If you go traveling Rick Steves recommends to learn at least a few words and phrases.

I love Paul’s sympathetic expression. Obviously, he’s not going to be of much help!

The only thing that I can add is that in Spain, sometimes they make hot chocolate with chocolate and sugar (separately), so maybe some people like their hot chocolate without the sugar added?

I love my hot chocolate made with very dark chocolate and definitely no sugar added.
Don’t ask for french fries in France though – they call them Belgian fries and don’t acknowledge them as their own :þ
