We’ve all been through this. In fact we go through it every day. We all know how tough, but also funny, it can be, as we move through life’s situations if we take our knocks with good humor. And we know also how very rewarding it can be when we actually occasionally get things right.

Everything she said in panel 3 is totally irrelevant.

Perhaps not. At most places Mrs. M and I frequent, we’ll give the cook a pass if there’s a mistake — but only one. After that, we’re talking to a manager.

The customers will “totally understand”? Not likely. The understanding will be that it’s time to find a new place to eat.

Yep — regular customers notice changes. Some changes are harbingers that the restaurant is not doing well. If quality slips, then regulars know not to come back.

I’m still very confused! She offered to help them figure out their finances, inventory system, business related stuff. Why is she cooking?! That help they don’t need.

I have a number of favorite restaurants where I am a regular and I make it a point to keep a running dialog with the chef. If something is not right or I a have a preference in preparation, I make it known. The chefs and I are both happy with the results and I tip well. There are local blogs (small town, 75k) where you can write critiques on local restaurants and rate them.
