As a Brit, this running galloping joke never fails to offend me.

    re: number 6

even though it’s 200+ years in the past?

You wouldn’t like the ancient joke about wellington then.

He means the old jibe that all Britishers have bad teeth. Can’t blame Six; even Alice Walker mentions it in The Color Purple.

Supposedly, Paul Revere wasn’t the only one who rode that night … just the one with the easiest rhyming name.

    @Number Six

Yes, Number Six, I was a bit surprised by Mark’s liberties, as well. But, of course, there was a time……and I couldn’t resist quoting another Englishman:

    Teeth
    by Spike Milligan

    English Teeth, English Teeth!
    Shining in the sun
    A part of British heritage
    Aye, each and every one.

    English Teeth, Happy Teeth!
    Always having fun
Clamping down on bits of fish
    And sausages half done.

    English Teeth! HEROES’ Teeth!
    Hear them click! and clack!
Let’s sing a song of praise to them –
Three Cheers for the Brown Grey and Black.

And the best thing about being British is you don’t have to be English.

I take umbrage at that! I have had nearly perfect grammar since elementary school. Also, on a side note Paul Revere cried out “The regulars are coming”, because technically at that point the Americans were all British.

What does a dentist have to do with Paul Revere’s chant that THE BRITISH ARE COMING?
