Mine looks like a mutant firecracker.

Guess not all are artistically gifted (sigh)!

A neighbor told me he arrived home late one night and saw a possum tightrope walking across a telephone wire in the moonlight. Thought you might be able to use that in the strip some day.

As far as I know, no animal has triangle eyes. I just liked the look on Oat, and consequently the other possums. I think it is because it kind of offsets the flared ears.

I try to keep my characters somewhat true to their real animal counter parts, but I also fudge it a little, including keeping some of the myths of their characteristics.

THANKS DAVE! I enjoyed that. I was accepted at Art School back in the day, for my comic strip drawings. Guess that’s why at the age of nearly 60 I am still an avid comic strip fan. It was back during the days of the Viet Nam war and my BF went into the 82nd Airborne, so we got married, and I ended up moving to Fayetteville NC, Fort Bragg, home of the 82nd Airborne. And that was that. Gettin’ too old now to try it again.

It’s never too late. I’m up in years myself. I was just post Nam. Got married, joined the Navy, signed for six years. After four years, my wife left me with two children, so I got out with two more years to go. I went back to school and got an Associate’s degree in graphics.

Always wanted to do cartooning, but as a single dad, I took whatever jobs came my way, mostly in print shops, doing paste up, film stripping and printing more than drawing. Now, am still working other things, but trying to do more in my first love which is drawing. I freelance on the side and hoping that soon I can get syndicated.

If you love to draw, give it a shot, even if it stays a hobby, as it has been for me so far, you have nothing to lose. And I enjoy it even if I am not getting paid. Comments like yours makes it worth it.

Thanks Dave, for the encouragement. I just may give it a shot, even like you said, it stays a hobby.

Sorry about your wife, but I would bet you raised 2 fine kids.
