‘The movie star … and the rest…"
I can’t remember how many seasons went by before she was even mentioned in the opening song. Just the first one, I think.

I always felt so sorry for “the Professor and Mary Ann” for being delegated to “the rest.”

Bob Denver insisted they be added to the song.

Yep, Ginger may have been “the movie star,” but Mary Ann definitely had that “farmer’s daughter” thing going on. She and the Professor were the only rational ones of the bunch – first thing they should have done was move away from “the rest” to the other side of the island and settle down together.

Are you guys ever going to get over the Ginger vs Mary Ann thing???? I’d take the professor myself.

Gilligan’s Island was only on for three seasons, and the theme song only said “…and the rest” for the first. They had Bob Denver to thank for that. He asked the producers to add the Professor and Mary Ann to the opening theme. When they balked at the expense of rerecording the song, he pointed out that according to his contract they would have to remove his name from the credits if he requested it. They gave in.
