Barnum and Bailey had a sign at one of their exhibits. It read, ‘To the Egress.’ Anyone who followed the sign wound up outside and had to pay to get back in.

Barnum introduced that exit to deal with the fact that people would come in to the exhibit and not leave in a timely fashion. I believe the sign read “This way to the Great Egress”.

The latest Jackass movie is like this. Real people don’t know they have an actor who causes mayhem.

I think the sign was in the Everglades, and it said, “This way to the Great Egrets”.

I’ve heard the story, but I’m pretty sure PT Barnum’s sign pointed the way to the “exibus”

No, actually, I haven’t read C&H since it into retirement. Why? Was there something like this in it?
