    One of the great SF short stories of all time: “The Machine Stops”, by E. M. Forster. 1909! You wouldn’t believe how prescient it was.

    I remember a Larry Niven story about a man who kills someone in a house… but he can’t leave by the nearby teleport… because his use would be recorded.
    When the cops catch him, one of them asks, ‘Why didn’t you just walk down to the next teleport?’
    He replied,‘I never thought of that!’
