As long as you’re still alive, things can always get worse.

Aren’t they in Maine? Gotta be prepared in Maine, in winter, don’t you? Like in California for earthquakes, but with more firewood and lanterns.

there was a time when my college roommate and I were (gasp) behind on our utility bills and they shut off our power for a week and a half or so.

we did a lot of reading by candlelight. It was actually quite pleasant.

until we realized that no power meant that the contents of the freezer rapidly spoiled. that was not so pleasant. I actually employed the “VapoRub under the nose” trick from “Silence of the Lambs” to do the cleanup after we paid off ConEd…

During the Ice Storm of 1998 we were without power for seven days.

The small generator I finally acquired only had two outlets.

We used one for the coffee pot and the other for the TV.

As long as they’re on municipal water, the toilets will still flush at least. (Those of us in the country don’t have water when the electricity goes out.) If Lucy has to Go outside, well… start tunnelling!!
