Closing Planned Parenthood clinics will cause abortion rates to soar, but now they’ll be illegal and unsafe. It’s not like we don’t know what will happen — just like in the 1950s, the rich will be able to get their abortions in blue states, from private specialists, or Switzerland; while the poor will die in back alleys. It’s already happening in Texas — though abortion can be perfectly safe, they’re forced to cross the border and pick up risky medicines at Mexican pharmacies. All because one party has decided that the health of women is irrelevant, only political power matters.

It’s called State Rights and if you don’t like it, move to another state. I’m sure New York and California will pay for the murder of your child.

@Conservgov. You realize that State’s Rights was used to justify slavery, restrictions on marrying outside of one’s race, separate bathrooms and water fountains, and a host of Jim Crow voting restrictions?

Closing Planned Parenthood, a facility that educates people on birth control and STDs will do nothing but increase the spread of disease and increase the abortion rate.

It’s not just for poor people… I’ve been to see a doctor at one of their clinics and paid cash.

At the same time, abortions aren’t just for women trying to “kill their babies”. My wife had serious complications in her first pregnancy and needed one to save her life. When you make the procedure illegal you’re condemning tens of thousands of women with serious complications in pregnancy, ones where the fetus is already dead or has zero chance of life, to a horrible, agonizing death.

first, no one has made abortion illegal. It is still a legal procedure and specifically addresses your wife’s problems.

second, planned parenthood is a good idea. but funding planned parenthood is something that local governments should do as well as private contributions. if you want the doors open, support them with YOUR money.

and third, while I do not agree with any of the positions you cite (Jim Crow laws?) I fail to see how positions from 1867 to 1965 – all of which have been done away with – have any relevance to states deciding that abortions should not be done after 4 months of pregnancy. Can you not decide? 20 weeks is too little time?

but that is just my opinion.

Really? Maybe you should look at this quote:

“California, Delaware, Maryland, and New Hampshire did not provide abortion reports to the federal government. Since California has not complied with CDC requests for abortion data in many years, and since California accounts for more abortions than any other state in the U.S, CDC totals are routinely incomplete. AGI, on the other hand, is the research arm of Planned Parenthood, the world’s largest abortion provider. "

    here is the reference material.

When men and states start getting pregnant, I’ll start listening to their rationales determining when to deem abortions illegal.

  7. Bruce4671

how can you justify that remark?

Last I looked, there are no laws on the books that demand you participate in any specific religion OR any laws that require you to adhere to any particular religious dogma.

The constitution mandates that all humans have the right to life. It is an “inalienable” right. Abortion denies humans that right.

Because of your hardheartedness, your refusal to take responsibility for your actions, your inability to control your base instincts and urges, abortion is the rule rather than abstinence or prevention. hundreds of thousands of abortions performed every year, over 50 million since Roe vs. Wade.

What an abject waste of human life and potential all because you can’t be bothered.

It’s not murder, and it’s not a child. It also happens to be a constitutional right. Don’t like abortion? Don’t have one. Or better yet, support Planned Parenthood which prevents more abortions each year through their family planning services than any Republican ever will.

Everything I said is true, and you have no evidence otherwise. Has conservatism gotten so inane that truth is dismissed as “Dumb?” No wonder your philosophy is failing in the marketplace of ideas.

“first, no one has made abortion illegal.”

Right. Just like New York never made guns illegal. They just made almost impossible to own a gun in that state. Its the same idea, only with abortion clinics.

“but funding planned parenthood is something that local governments should do as well as private contributions.”

Well in that case let’s get rid of the DMV, the fire departments, and the police. They take state and federal money so why should the rest of us pay for it. If you want to use their services then you pay for them! Oh and abortions are not funded by NO GUBBERMINT BODY (read the hyde amendment)!!!

“…have any relevance to states deciding that abortions should not be done after 4 months of pregnancy?”

    See point #1.

OK, show me the law that makes all abortion illegal. Making it difficult is alright, JUST LIKE it is ok to make it difficult to own or carry a weapon IF the local population is so inclined.

And what a poor example to use. The DMV? Fire departments…police? Every one of them is funded with local property taxes, state taxes on gasoline, sales taxes and where mandated state income taxes. Yes, there is some federal assistance.

And while you are technically correct in that funds from government agencies do not directly fund abortion, you are sadly mistaken to think that a non profit organization that pays no taxes, does not receive assistance from the feds. That “assistance” then frees other funds up for the “non funded” procedures. Please….

Abortion, as a last resort measure to protect the life of the woman, to terminate a pregnancy due to rape or incest are not topics for debate.

There are reason for the procedure. Get your head out of ….. the sand.

Men have always felt they had the right to control women’s reproductive activities. When I wanted to get my tubes tied at the age of 35 with two children, I was told to bring my husband down so the doctor could make sure he agreed. Women continue to be treated as second-class citizens without the intelligence or rights to make their own decisions. As with blacks, there is much work to be done.

My grandma had two back alley abortions. Let’s hear it for conserving old-time values! (She told me herself.)

While California may have the most abortions, it is rate that should be cared about. If Wyoming had the greatest number there would be a serious problem.

California has nearly 1.5 x the population of the nearest state 26 million is Texas.

The net effect of abstinence in my parents days was quite a few pregnant 14 year olds, compounded by shotgun marriages which one could only prey would work out. Or in most cases it simply became abusive
Prevention is larger than ever before, also as another fun fact about 9 million children die each year from easily treatable diseases, polluted water and starvation. Yet foreign aid tends to be the first thing cut in all situations.

Finally statistics of abortions performed in X state are going to be influenced by factors outside of the state
