Nick Anderson of the Houston Chronicle is an avowed independent who covers politics and contemporary cultural issues in a way that connects with readers. His loose, idiosyncratic style carries with it an unconventional message that has broad appeal. "I approach my work with a healthy skepticism for the ideological extremists littering our political landscape," explains Anderson.

What about the ever-increasing debt?

Yes this is now the The Democratic People’s Republic of Amerika .
We are officially against all that the Tea Party stands for:
Preserving domestic employment
Eliminating special interests
Downsizing government
Balancing the budget
Ending deficit spending
Reducing personal income taxes
Reducing business income taxes
Making political offices available to average citizens
Stopping intrusive government
.
Yes these things are bad for America and we must demonize all those who advocate for these values.

@ansonia
“Preserving Domestic Employment” – Except when it can increase corporate profits to allow companies to ship all their work overseas.
“Eliminating Special Interests” – As long as they are NOT Grover Norquist, or the N.R.A.“Downsizing Government” – Except for hiring thousands of under-trained TSA Agents and wanting to put thousands of armed guards in schools
“Balancing the Budget” – Except for keeping the deficit high by refusing to tax everyone fairly because it might cost you some votes from the 1%
“Ending Deficit Spending” – As long as you can keep dumping trillions of Dollars into a couple of useless wars started by a Republican president
“Reducing Personal Income Taxes” – Except on the millions who will find their tax rates going UP
“Reducing Business Income Taxes” – Unless you run a small business without any overseas connections to hide income
“Making Political Offices Available to Average Citizens” – As long as they have several Million Dollars to spend on campaigns to have any chance against Political Machines with UNLIMITED funding from Corporations with their own interests in mind
“Stopping Intrusive Government” – As long as you are NOT Gay, OR a Woman, or don’t mind having the Government tell you what you can do in the privacy of your own bedroom, AND who you can do it with!
Yes, except for those little minor exceptions, the TEA Party has it together…

The grass roots Tea Party (which I respected) morphed into the Koch Brothers-Dick Armey-FreedomWorks Party. They no longer stand for the things you listed. I wish they did.

ansonia,
Perfect post! It’s not just the Tea Party’s values, it is also the values for those of us who are Independents who use logic and have ethics.
masterskrain said, 6 months ago
@Nancy
Yes, it is. I just wish it was still their values…
As usual, a good basic idea, smaller, more responsive government, with less intrusion has been usurped by special interests, corporate greed, and big Money.

“Tea Partier” and “moron” are synonyms.

If only those that desire higher taxes would willingly pay higher taxes. It is only the people not successful that demand others pay more.

Nice to see a non-inflammatory post.
.
However… taxes are not optional. It is determined by our representatives. Taxes have been at historic low rates – thanks to the unpaid for Bush tax cuts by the representatives of that time, who also piled on two wars (among other things). We’re talking $5 trillion. And now they don’t want to pay for them. How do you reconcile that?
.
I totally disagree with your “those who are not successful” argument. This is a country, a community, with shared values.

Ansonia: only problem with your list, do you REALLY want the standard of living of say, Yemen, Somalia, Zambia? Oh right, you also want the environmental future and defense of say, Maldieves?
