Nick Anderson of the Houston Chronicle is an avowed independent who covers politics and contemporary cultural issues in a way that connects with readers. His loose, idiosyncratic style carries with it an unconventional message that has broad appeal. "I approach my work with a healthy skepticism for the ideological extremists littering our political landscape," explains Anderson.

First it was Harry Reid, an eminently beatable and not very valuable legislator. Who did the Republicans run against him? Sharron Angle: she of the “if we don’t win, we should flex our second-amendment rights” and “why won’t reporters ask me the questions I want to answer?” example of leadership ability. Surprise: as politically weak and vulnerable as he was, Reid prevailed.
Obama the same way. Notwithstanding how we got here and who might have been to blame, he was in a bad position, and was beatable. And who did they run against him? “Corporations are people, my friend…” and so on. And Romney, despite himself and his cohorts, almost won.
The Rs have to realize that we’re not buying the product they’re selling. It is not enough to stand in the way just to obstruct. It is time to realize that nothing in its pure form (such as the Free Market) is perfect. It is time to realize that God is not an American and Jesus is not a Republican. And, most of all, it is time to stop listening to the idea from a 14-year-old that taxes should never go up under any circumstances. Let’s face it: when I was 14 I had a lot of “great ideas” that would save the world. By the time I was 15, I realized why they wouldn’t work as well as I thought originally. I’m sure I’m not the only one.
Revenue must increase. It will take us too long to recover just by cutting expenses. It is as simple as that.
We shall see if anyone is paying attention.

I wasn’t so much shocked that GOP had such bad candidates, just that the race was too close! If one thinks we’re safe, not so, Bachmann, and way too many of the “looney bin trip” folks area still around.

Will the GOP finally realize that they have to be less extreme and more inclusive? Women count, as do young people, minorities and moderates.
They got within striking distance this time. Unless they “get it”, 2016 will be less kind, as will every other election after that.

I truly wish your sentiment could somehow be presented to the whole country. It is the truth, the actual reality, that this Christian Confederate Nazis on the right cannot see. I truly believe they are intellectually blind or just plain brain dead.

MAN, those grapes sure must be sour!
Go ahead…tell us ONE proven case of voter fraud, or “Dems Multiple Voting” that has been substantiated!
I await what I suspect will be a deafening silence…
