Nick Anderson of the Houston Chronicle is an avowed independent who covers politics and contemporary cultural issues in a way that connects with readers. His loose, idiosyncratic style carries with it an unconventional message that has broad appeal. "I approach my work with a healthy skepticism for the ideological extremists littering our political landscape," explains Anderson.

If we stop all work and die we could stop the use of oil.

I don’t think Kirby or Tigger fully grasped what this Editorial Cartoon is saying. Which really doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

This is not an editorial cartoon. It is a xeroxed page of Obama Administration propaganda. Very lazy of you, Nick.

towerwarlock said it better than I could. This is a bigger deal than just partisan politics.

Metacomment: does anyone else see artistic parallels between this comic and the style that Wiley often employes for his Sunday Non Sequiter strip?

Assigning blame is always easier than finding solutions. (It’s the other guy’s fault.)
Just once, when someone says we use 20%(it’s usually 25) of the resources for 5% of the population, can someone tell me how much of the world we feed, directly, through aid & sales, & indirectly, through jobs at American companies or factories that make the junk we buy?

Apparently, the word “Blame” is hidden in the spewing oil a little too well. You kinda have to look for it knowing from the text that it is there somewhere. Unlike many of the comments have shown, Anderson does not appear to be knocking the process of drilling. I am sure that the artist owns a car and uses oil also. What he appears to be advocating for is accountability. Instead of passing blame, take responsibility and do the drilling correctly so that no one gets killed and so that the gulfcoast economies don’t tank.

GREED is America’s renewable resource.

In part I agree with tower troll, we HAVE had the answers to conserve fuel to a very high degree since the early 1960’s, but the people drilling those holes, and digging those mines, would have lost profit, so they KILLED all technology that cost them. Today’s fuel mileage “increases” are just going back the old days, with cleaner burning engines to boot. There will never be truly “clean” coal for fuel, combustion byproduct isn’t even as dangerous as the “dirty” way of getting at coal that destroys vast ecosystems.
greed isn’t renewable, it’s a constant.

Read “Crude Awakening” in the March-April Audubon to see how well the Petroleum industry is screwing this country. Conoco-Phillips and Exxon are moving 600,000 pound trucks across Montana through some of this countries most beautiful country and are turning it into a permanent industrial corridor. Govenor Schweitzer’s administration has been meeting privately with Exxon before proposing this travesty. At stake, includes the 1.6billion Montana tourism industry as well as the health of the Lochsa Wild and Scenic corridor, and people living near Canadian tar sand extraction sites. Rich Bass/Audubon July-August.

But it is OK for us to be the biggest buyer from Brazil, You know where Obama scared away most of the new Oil platforms. But hey he did go there and play a little Football and visit Sorus investments.
And speaking of “below” what happened to the “Dead Gulf” and Beaches ruined for as far as the eye can see and Gulf oil fish punch lines? Oh that is right, the blown up hype only manged to ruin a tourist season just like I was saying back when the media circus went to town over the gulf.
AAAAAhhhh go buy a Volt!

Yes we do not Blame ourselves much around here. I Blame mostly the American people, we elect these dim wits in and don’t kick them out when they bring back the pork. Second I do blame the Democrats. Any party that spends billions to pick up votes and spends two to three trillion in the time they were in control of both houses of congress & the white house is at fault. Third I blame the press always calling the Republican candidates stupid while making People like Kerry, Gore and Obama look like some intellectuals that they are not. Next I blame the Republicans who have spent to much money and brought back to much pork themselves. Last I blame Europe who are in worse shape then us and do not cover their military expenses like they should making us cover their worthless (insert your own thought).
