Nick Anderson of the Houston Chronicle is an avowed independent who covers politics and contemporary cultural issues in a way that connects with readers. His loose, idiosyncratic style carries with it an unconventional message that has broad appeal. "I approach my work with a healthy skepticism for the ideological extremists littering our political landscape," explains Anderson.

They love it so much they would not pass a budget last year because of the elections.

Harley: The attitude of the elephant in this comic, which you appear to share, is what is being made fun of. Hope this helps.

every word is true but Anderson is spinning the meanings…(?how many of you really think the GOP should be FOR ELIMINATING GOVERNMENT?) the Dems love government money, control and work day and night to expand government tentacles into private lives and business and every aspect of the American system.
but this is also true, that before the 2010 election, Dems tested the polls and (1) refused to pass a budget for FY 2011 when they had the majority in Senate and House with a Dem. Prez to sign whatever they passed. (2) after the GOP gained majority of House, between Vote Day and the new January 2011 Congress, Dems delberately did nothing to pass a budget or appropriations or fund government operation beyond the April 8 deadline, setting a TRAP for the Conservative GOP….and daily ever since the Dems have blocked any action to prevent a shutdown and loss of paychecks to US military…..
GOP is justified in trying to inform the Voters what is happening! All the while, the Dems are demagoging and LYING to the Voters….trying to make Political Gains from a Media-helped perception that all problems come from the GOP trying to starve Grandma and your Kids….

It really is going to be sad not seeing the paymasters running out on the battlefield with paychecks in hand. I stupidly had assumed paychecks to the military were issues electronically on the first of the month, or maybe 1st and 15th or perhaps final day of the month. But it it a great “talking point” even if not true.

Despite the Republicans’ rhetoric, Democrats still controlled both houses of Congress for another two months, leaving some hope that they could pass a FY 2011 budget in a lame-duck session. Democrats tried to rally support for an omnibus package, combining all twelve appropriations bills into one giant bill, but they failed to win over any Republicans. Any deal needed Republican support to clear the Senate, and Senate Republican leadership decided they would rather wait for the new Congress, when they would control the House and have a larger minority in the Senate, than finish the FY 2011 budget in 2010.
My oh my, wouldn’t the Republicans have howled had the Democrats passed a 2011 budget in the lame duck session, subverting the results of the election, will of the people and all?
The Republicans set this trap for themselves, by allying with the tpers.

So what yo are saying is that the D did not want any debate, they did not want to wok with any R and did not want to make a stand and pass what they could have passed? I mean yes you can wait till the last minute and try to cram it all in at once with out any review, my kid tried to do that with his homework last Sunday. Why those dastardly R’s wanting to debate a bill on it’s merits and the D get to hold the bag of what Cowboy Sing song and what not. How dare they want to go through a budget “with a scalpel” and cut anything in a budget that could bankrupt our country. How dare the R’s try to cut anything that might not be needed. It is not like Obama was using the cutting tool. To bad Mc might be able to loan us his ax? Yeb those guys really set a trap for themselves, I guess they should have just run to Canada or something when they did not get their way last year. Oh wait they did not, they just stated how they would vote and were willing to vote on every issue instead of all or nothing the D’s wanted.

CharlieKane, I see your OMB and I raise with my http://spectator.org …article 4/6/11 “Paul Ryan’s Adult Conversation” (budget)…printed 5 pages…
“….President Obama has actually increased federal spending by 28% compared to 2008…from $2.983 Trillion 2008 to $3.819 Trillion 2011….Obama proposes 2012 to increase another 57% to $5.756 Trillion by 2021 according to CBO.” “..after Obama promised in the 2008 election that he would adopt a ‘net spending cut’….”
Why would a GOP elected on promises of fiscal restraint go back on their promise days after the election to vote FOR any Democrat spending spree budget??????? Thank God the GOP did not vote for those lame duck Democratic bills…..
another point….the Dithering Democrats had the majority from January 2010 to January 2011 and a federal budget and all the appropriations bills are DUE before the October 1st start of the new fiscal year!
