The Minerals Management Service, the federal agency responsible for all offshore oil and gas regulation, has dined, partied, fired off shotguns, hunted, golfed, and shared Web porn – and in a couple of cases even done cocaine and meth – with employees of the very companies they’re supposed to be regulating, according to a newly released Interior Department report.

Please note- the “deficiencies” go back to pre-2008- (actually going back to when Jim Watt decided how things would be “run”)

“One of the most effective forms of industrial or military sabotage limits itself to damage that can never be thoroughly proven - or even proven at all - to be anything deliberate. It is like an invisible political movement; perhaps it isn’t there at all. If a bomb is wired to a car’s ignition, then obviously there is an enemy; if public building or a political headquarters is blown up, then there is a political enemy. But if an accident, or a series of accidents, occurs, if equipment merely fails to function, if it appears faulty, especially in a slow fashion, over a period of natural time, with numerous small failures and misfiring- then the victim, whether a person or a party or a country, can never marshal itself to defend itself.”

BP and Halliburton have ruined some of this countries most productive and pristine coastline through neglect and greed. They did it with huge support from the GOP. Funding for the EPA was gutted during the BUSH years. The EPA was rendered impotent. The oil industry basically says it doesn’t need regulation. www.hcn.org/issues/319/16205 www.hcn.org/issues/40.23/as-interiorturns www.hcn.org/issues/269/14552 www.hcn.org/issues/257/14209 www.hcn.org/issues/291/15258

This isn’t an accident. This is an attack upon the United States! Get the marines to SHOOT BP execs and take over the company.

AHAB: Funding for the EPA was UP during the Bush Administration over the Clinton Administration. They were not “gutted”.

If you want to say that Bush was anti-environment because he cared more about people than some endangered insect somewhere, and therefore he’s responsible for the Disaster in the Gulf that happened under someone else’s watch, go for it. But get your facts right before ignoring them.

Funding for enforcement was slashed gutting the effectiveness of the agency. I have my facts correct. The part of the agencies money I should have specified. You are correct on the EPA total fund above. You are very incorrect about Bushes concern for people. Visit Iraq, for my point. Look at the EPA, under Bush and read Eric Schaeffer’s Clearing the Air in the July2002 issue of Washington Monthly. Great job Brownie!

“The better the chances of survival for the plants and animals you see in these photographs-and for all their endangered kin- the better our own chances for survival will be.” A quote from RARE,Portraits of America’s Endangered Species by Joel Sartore. Since 1973, only 50 species have made it off the threatened and endangered species list. 9 of these were removed because they went extinct. I am always amazed when someone sneeringly dismisses at risk species by citing ” insects” not realizing whole ecosystems are destroyed by our callousness. Extinction is permanent. I thought you smarter than that churchhilliswrong. Besides I thought you Libertarian bozos wanted big government out of businesses way! So what does Obama have to do, huh? Place spies on every oil platform to make them do THEIR jobs right?

AHAB: Your tears for an extinct insect doesn’t sway me. If it were up to enviro-nuts like you, we’d all still be living in the overcrowded cities of the northeast. You’re the type that complains about urban sprawl. We’d have never had the cars and the factories that built this country. (and please don’t give me some BS about how I’d like them unregulated so they can pollute our rivers and streams.) We’d have never built our first hydorelectric dam, let alone a marvel like the Hoover dam.

And speaking of factories, you’re part of the crowd that was b!tching when they were humming, and now you’re b!tching when they sit idle.

Already polluted, I’ve got pieces of property I can get for you at Love Canal and Libby Montana. I’ll send you some smoked trout from Utah’s front range….all you can eat! The 9 species extinct were not insects. Speaking of nuts, only a fool doesn’t care about the Gulf catastrophe. Bet you never heard of the periwinkle plant. Funny that lowly plant gave rise to Vincristine, a major contributor to curing Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in children in 1965. Before that all of the children died of A.L.L. A majority of our medicines are derived from plants, animals, and yes, insects. Look up luciferase for a little knowledge. I won’t hold my breath for short sighted fools.
