Nick Anderson of the Houston Chronicle is an avowed independent who covers politics and contemporary cultural issues in a way that connects with readers. His loose, idiosyncratic style carries with it an unconventional message that has broad appeal. "I approach my work with a healthy skepticism for the ideological extremists littering our political landscape," explains Anderson.

^ can the “massa” bit, will you. The call to investigate ACORN’s activities is bipartisan.
HOWGOZIT said, 2 months ago
Yes that is why seven in Congress want to continue funding this organization. No one paid attention to the corruptness last year.

Howie I didn’t say it was unanimous, I said it was bipartisan. (And actually 75 Democrats voted against cutting off funds.)
Pelosi, Patrick Kennedy and others commonly labeled “far left” voted yes, siding with the Reps. It was bipartisan

Will the Libs be able to handle having the dream of “Utopia in our time” being thwarted? How many rights and freedoms will be tossed aside as a result?
tpenna: If my memory is correct, Obama did pro-bono work as an ACORN lawyer; also trained ACORN activists; and ran a neighbor ACORN office. But don’t quote me on all those specifics.

BCS - So he wasn’t a community organizer? What did he do?

Is ACORN the only medium of community organization?

Our poor community organizer in chief. He could have counted on ACORN in August but that weed was cut off and made for firewood in Sept. I wonder what Chicago style voting strategy he will try come next election. To bad nobody paid attention to the 30 some ACORN personal that were convected of voter fraud.
Anderson is sadly misinformed. This was done by two ordinary citizens. Not the dreaded R’s.

precocious pup … you’re too cute for your own good today … he wasn’t a community organizer for ACORN, had minimal contact with ACORN, which you’d know if you read the durn article

I did read it, I did! (You better stick with him working for ACORN, though; otherwise, it looks very suspicious).

It still took over a year for your view of “bipartisanship” in action to hold Acorn accountable.

BCS What you wrote and what you posted leave me confused. You kindly posted a “facts” article about Obama and ACORN. I read it and I interpret that to mean he was indeed allied with ACORN and on several occasions just like the accusations. Their paths crossed many times, he legally represented them which means ethically he can no longer judge them.
Copperdomebodhi said, 2 months ago
Hold ACORN responsible for what? The wingnuts had to visit four or five different ACORN offices before they could find someone up to badness. ACORN fired the person responsible as soon as they found out what happened.
Voter fraud? That dog won’t hunt. Voter registration forms with phony names meant extra paperwork for the elections board. Mickey Mouse didn’t show up to vote, so there weren’t any fraudulent votes cast.
ACORN’s real crime is that they register poor people to vote. Republicans can’t allow that, because their policies don’t benefit anyone making less that 500K per year.

Parker praised Copper because Copper evidently said what Parker wanted to hear even if totally wrong.
As said above all 5 of the ACORN offices visited cooperated in illegal activities.
Mickey Mouse didn’t vote? Well, we know in Chicago the John Does do vote and the election board not only doesn’t check but actively cooperates in voter fraud. As I have said here previously when i lived in Chicago I personally illegally voted for others.
Everyone, living, should have one vote but that doesn’t guarantee Democratic victory so that has to be increased. that is what community organizers do.

You don’t really believe that community organizers universally are in the business of voter fraud, do you GNWachs? That’s what your last sentence said, but you certainly don’t believe that, do you?

I was born and raised in Chicago. If you haven’t lived there you cannot possibly understand “the Chicago Way”. The one and only purpose of alderman/city council, community organizers etc is to get Democrats elected. They will do whatever is necessary.
That said, what they do is usually very beneficial to the community. Pick up garbage, get you a job, get health covered etc. But the price is vote Democratic. Graft and corruption is how you get results. The unions functionally report to Mayor Daley so there are no strikes. The old Daley was both Mayor and head of the Democratic Party. complete and total overlap.
ACORN, with $50M from the Feds, as we can now see is obviously corrupt. If you didn’t know this already you must only read the MSM.
DrCanuck said, 2 months ago
The Chicago Way - those horrible Democrats will do anything to get elected; they’ll even go so far as to serve the people.
What a concept!

My only experience with ACORN was when I did AmeriCorps in Oakland, CA and interacted with them there. They did good work, partnering with other organizations to get a community-owned grocery store with healthy foods into an underserved neighborhood, among other projects. I judged all the people I met to be good folks.
That’s one of the reasons why I bristle at some folks whose sole knowledge of ACORN comes from haters like Glenn Beck and who believe it’s a thoroughly corrupt organization.
When we hear people saying that an organization is “completely” this or “never” that, we should listen to what they have to say with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Kibble You are sharp! Those were my liberal Democrat days and followed the ACORN principle. Do anything, break any law, say anything but get my fellow Democrats elected. JFK was one of my all time heroes.
I walked through my familiar streets one on one with Sen Douglas and my megaphone getting people to listen to him. I have a signed photo with HHH as I campaigned for him.
Yes, BCS I really really wanted JFK to win.
omQR I have repeatedly asked lawyers. Statute of Limitations has passed.

No Acorn no Obama, a few less democrat senators and a lot less democrat house members.
Edgar stated prostitution should be legal.
Their new logo would be.
You can get the STD of your choice and pay for it.
It is not their fault they have to be prostitutes.
Since Hillary wants all felons to be able to vote. She can offer their services to the local prisons.
It is not the prisoners fault they belonged to gangs, rapped kids and murdered numerous people then buried them in their backyard.
More Obama change.
DrCanuck said, 2 months ago
It’s Obama’s fault that people are being buried in backyards!

@ TPenna - exactly. ACORN probably has some bad apples, and these people should be, and afaik were, fired. However, to hear some people speak (and write on this forum), everyone who was in any way associated with ACORN is a criminal and a scumbag.
parkersinthehouse said, 2 months ago
Thanks TP!
It seems like rational thinkers would recognize that good organizations, like good political parties, religions, corporations may always have faulty - even criminal - factions
churchillwasright said, 2 months ago
Do realize that ACORN is the only organization IN THE ENTIRE COUTRY that is set up so as to be able to recieve federal funding, but can have different “arms” that are tax exempt, can be totally politically partisan, and don’t have to open their books to anybody? In this way they can move the money from one arm to another, and no one can demand any accountablilty. They also have over 200 affiliated orgnaizations working for them under different names (but all in the same small building) so that it would take a forensic accountant a million years to figure out where all their money goes.
They are so corrupt, this thing with the 2 employees and the prostitution ring is miniscule.
