he was thinking he’d go after the Hillary voters who hoped she’d be picked for V.P. and remember, he only had time to think for a few hours, no staff people, either his own or RNC’s, went to Alaska to vet further until AFTER she was picked

He was gambling to get the right-wing voting because he was way to center for many republicans.

At the time he picked Palin, I questioned whether McCain had actually even had much choice. It seemed she was chosen by party bosses for him. He didn’t know her, they hadn’t really vetted her. That was one reason for questioning not so much his judgment as his ability to lead rather than be led by party bosses.

I’ve also said it before that Sarah Palin was not well served by her party. She was (albeit with the help of a large ego) taken out of her relatively achievable position as governor and put into an impossible position. That she couldn’t recognize it doesn’t speak well of her, but we often let our egos get us in over our heads. It really speaks poorly of the leadership who should have done their homework. I agree that they were crassly trying to capitalize on the angry Hillary voters. Let her go - if she can find peace in the private life, bless her. If she tries to pull a Rush - then she’s inviting more fun and games.

I still fail to see why she’s so interesting as to be dominating the political ‘toonscape though.

Now the Elephants change their stripes. They were all a flutter after Mccain chose her, now they’re upset?

Not me…I’m ready to go “independent”. It’s just the GOP “old boys” and hippie-Libs, Rinos - that don’t like her.

He was thinking she is “Christian,” she is against abortion, she is against gay marriage, and she is against any kind of gun control. That’s all that is required to fun for prez these days.

I don’t know what McCain was thinking, but I wonder - perhaps the elephant itself had been thinking that Palin was a wonderful pick some time last year?
