Nick Anderson of the Houston Chronicle is an avowed independent who covers politics and contemporary cultural issues in a way that connects with readers. His loose, idiosyncratic style carries with it an unconventional message that has broad appeal. "I approach my work with a healthy skepticism for the ideological extremists littering our political landscape," explains Anderson.

Is this really why people are running from the Republicans? I mean Rush has been around for a long time, hasn’t he? Cheney has had 8 years of … well, not independence but he had a podium lets say. Or is it just our political system in general? It was interesting that people didn’t run from the Democrats after the said they would get us out of the war and we are still there. Now they have the presidency and we are still there. When the president’s four years, or eight, are done, and he can’t fix everything that is wrong in the time he has (no one can), will people be running in circles, disgusted with both parties? Hey, Nick! Could you make a cartoon of Bush’s White house with a bunch of tombstones from the war in front of it, him looking from the window. Then have same pictures with Obama looking out and tombstones already growing in his White House’s front yard?

Maybe Obama won’t be able to take the US out of Bush’s wars (which is disappointing, because that’s what he promised) but at least if he doesn’t get us into more wars, I’ll call it better than Bush.

Overlooked is the fact we never stopped bombing Iraq after ‘91 and “Desert Stupid”. So now Obama’s had a whole three months to work on ending 17 years of stupidity? Like moth markings that look like big eyes to distract predators, Cheney is trying to inflate himself to look righteous and true, while making the lie bigger.

The majority of Americans have rejected what the GOP is about PERIOD. The fact they can’t see what the problems are also speaks volumes. Their next two BIG comeback plans are (1) complaining about who Obama picks for the Supreme Court ( anyone will be better than Harriet Myers ) and (2) gay marriage ( yet another reason folks think the GOP has lost it’s way ).

^ Sweet dreams are made of this^ LOL
I’ve never seen the level of discontent so early in any Presidency, even the left is turning on the clown, and the issue of abortion is about to explode in his face!!!as more Americans are equating Pro-choice with pro-abortion.

Marchaod,
That has always been the Case since Roe V Wade, where have you been?

The trolls did it again. The point is that Cheney and Limbaugh have damaged the Republican party, but it seems to have brought out all the wingnuts trying to deflect the point!

Many people left the current variation of the GOP in the last 2 elections but I won’t be surprised if a lot of them come back to a GOP that is actually conservative as opposed to Democrat-light.
The question is when will this happen - and what will it take for this to happen.
Change happens and anyone who thinks that either the DNC or the GOP is dead will see that is not the case.
I think this is a tremendous opportunity for the GOP to start getting it right because only the most hyperpartisan people who refuse to see truth will say that the GOP owns any of the consequences for what the Democrats are doing in Congress and the White House at present.
But will the GOP use the opportunity?
I hope so.

It always happens that whoever is in control when the economy tanks (GOP) loses to the other party (Dem). Add the fact Bush broke the rule of one segment of the republicans: the government shouldn’t spend money, and you have the reason the GOP is shrinking. HOWEVER, if the GOP continues to cement into the party of blind hate, fear-mongering, and obstructionism, then those good people who were republicans before Bush may never come back. ANandy and Muchado are just as much an example of this as is Coulter, Limbaught, Hannity, etc. Muchado says “I’ve never seen the level of discontent so early in any Presidency” because all he sees is the right wing propaganda. Obama is still at over 60% favorable in the polls. Criticism from his supporters (as I am and have done) is not “turning on him”. Among those that only listen to right wing radio or watch Fox “News”, it’s true he is rabidly hated by the minority of the republicans who were not in it for small government, social conservatism, or “I’m rich don’t tax me”; but rather in it because “I hate everyone and don’t care if they go to h— in a hand basket as long as my tax dollars don’t help them.” The more Obama proves to be intelligent and decent (look at the way he handled the University snubs this weekend), the more they hate him for not living down to their expectations.

I have become a RINO. The extreme right seems to have control of the party. I will never vote again for someone who claims to be “Born again Christian!”

lcbiii states “Many people left the current variation of the GOP in the last 2 elections but I won’t be surprised if a lot of them come back to a GOP that is actually conservative as opposed to Democrat-light”
By that time those who left will be dead! The old GOPers are dying off… it was the young folks who voted and see themselves as Democrats!
