Nick Anderson of the Houston Chronicle is an avowed independent who covers politics and contemporary cultural issues in a way that connects with readers. His loose, idiosyncratic style carries with it an unconventional message that has broad appeal. "I approach my work with a healthy skepticism for the ideological extremists littering our political landscape," explains Anderson.

well the mud should fly directly at the GOP elephants … Anderson should have added a “heh heh heh” along with that sly toothy grin to show the GOP elephant blusterbusses know exactly how to use this to get what they want … more money in their own fat tax shelters and those of their friends
(I luv elephants ,,, wish the GOP had a different symbol … wonder what would be fitting y’all ?? )

I think their symbol should be a screw driver.

1mad … very good! i was thinking maybe a big old, lumbering brontosaurus, except they were actually rather gentle herbivores … gotta be a big meat eater, devouring all the little people so can’t be a rhinoceros …. Hump, laughing hyena is a possibility too, they’re sneaky and live off the work of others … more suggestions welcome folks …

Cancer Cells?
Screw Drivers are pleasant drinks, and Hyenas get a bad rap. Owls are rather limited in vision, and avoid daylight, so maybe that would work.

LLeRay. perhaps Hyenas do get a bad rap but they still steal from the meals of others and will only hunt a weak or injured animal.

You know, no matter how you look at it, it still boils down to:
Tax Cuts = give money back to those who earned it, spending bills = take money from those who earn it.

“Good shot, kensurg?” Try again, oldlegodad! Currently we are in a massive deficit due to Bush policies spending money he didn’t have - more proof, if any were needed, that the Republicans have fallen far, far away from their economic principles. So Bush was in fact taking money from our children and grandchildren to give it to rich people today – like Cheney, who certainly benefited from all those no-bid contracts to Halliburton.
According to economists, what we need now is to spend money to rebuild the country and provide jobs to people who can then spend money and reboot the economy (rather than paying off rich people who don’t need it). This is exactly what the New Deal did, and there’s plenty of evidence that it worked – despite the new Republican talking point that it made the Depression worse. (They’re using data roughly the way Blago did, when he claimed it was a conspiracy against him because he wanted to help the little people.)
Unfortunately, because Bush took the fat surplus Clinton handed him and gave it away, then spent some more on Chinese credit, we are stuck with deficit spending as the only choice. Either that, or dismantle the government entirely – and frankly, despite the idiots like Norquist who want to “drown the government in a bathtub,” exactly how long do you think we’d last without the military, road maintenance, food inspection, drug inspection, etc. services the government provides?

Better shot, MM.
Admittedly, I have not paid much (any) attention in the past, but I’m not wondering when the Republican party flipped 180 degrees and became the “spend, baby, spend” party. As I recall that’s not what they stood for…in fact I’m not sure what they stand for any more.
