Nick Anderson of the Houston Chronicle is an avowed independent who covers politics and contemporary cultural issues in a way that connects with readers. His loose, idiosyncratic style carries with it an unconventional message that has broad appeal. "I approach my work with a healthy skepticism for the ideological extremists littering our political landscape," explains Anderson.

I feel California’s standards have benefited us all. All my newer equipment from chain saws to trucks are cleaner burning because of those standards. The GOP has made a hard turn to the right and Fox news has gone with them! I think I will change my voting registration to independent. I am no longer able to identify as a Republican!

Right on! I think I would have been a Teddy Roosevelt Republican - what a long way they’ve come.

And don’t believe that horsehocky the “shrinking 3” spout about how much it will add to the cost of each vehicle. It will add cost, but if they go for the most restrictive they only make one version and volume will take care of the rest. just like the fedregs they said the same thing about.

California!? They can’t even pay their own bills yet they demand others to live by their rules!

Seems something of a knot … very good idea but who’s paying?

Pup, get it straight. CA is not alone in the budget mess–most states are in the same boat. CA does not dictate waht other states pass as laws, just for themselves. It has been pointed out that rather than waiting for up to 50 different standards to comply wiht, the manufacturer can simply choose the toughest–thus all the rest are automatically taken care of.
Since you obviously are not from CA, please name me one CA law you are required to live by.

Just change 1 debating point and one animal. Change the elephant to a donkey and change stricter environmental standards to abortion.
Watch the Dems scream. See it goes both ways.

GNW?! …because personal privacy rights translate to pollution laws?
If CA, with it’s Millions of drivers wants cleaner cars, that is their right. If Detroit doesn’t want to make those cars for CA then they can let Toyota and Honda have that HUGE market.

Claude you just proved manufacturers are strong-armed by CA mandates by fiat due to its large consumer base. OldLego: Yep, Train wreck even with Arnold in the Engineer’s spot.

They can skip selling in CA if they want to, there’s 49 other states in the US as well as the rest of the world. It’s been done several times before.
At this point in tim it’s an empty argument. I went and read the memorandum–all it says is the EPA is being asked to review the denial decision.

And how dare any state make its own rules about physician-assisted suicide, or medical marijuana. No DC Republican would dream of ceding such power to the states.
