Who knew a cable network could take command of an entire seven days of the cultural consciousness with nothing more than horrific footage of one of nature's most captivating superpredators? I mean, I guess we all did. After all, Shark Week has been an annual staple on Discovery Channel since July 17, 1988! The week-long focus on sharks was initially developed as a kind of conservation effort to counter anti-shark sentiment stemming from fear-based pop culture imagery like the movie Jaws. What's it like these days? It's kind of a have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too deal with equal parts scary and sentimental shows. Yes, sharks could totally eat you with their horrifying razor teeth, powerful jaws, and insatiable appetite. No, you shouldn't eat shark fin sandwiches for every meal because our oceans' ecosystems are delicate. It's so noble of Discovery Channel to share this info that we've collected a bunch of Shark Week comics in its honor!

Sink your teeth into our Shark Week comics collection as you kick off your own sharky discovery.
