    This is so typical of the DMV in Illinois. 25 People waiting in line and you always have 2 or 3 of the counter attendants standing around chatting rather then getting on a computer and processing people.

    Gotta Love those Public Employee Unions that make sure their pay is never tied to their performance.

    The Drivers License place is less than half a mile from where I live, so when I needed to renew I left the house about the time they opened to “beat the crowd”

    Got number 41

    Walked home and back again and still had time to read for nearly 2 hours before I finally got out of there

    In Houston most of what you need to do at the DMV can be done via computer.

    @Clark Kent
    I renewed mine at the same location January of this year. I was in and out in 15 minutes and there was (almost) no one there. The only time I’ve run into a problem at that location is if I go there after 3:30. That’s when you have the high schoolers coming in for permit testing and people leaving work early to get to the DMV. But at that time there has always been at least 30 to 50 people waiting. The longest time period so far has been 60 minutes. I go early now.

    When I lived in San Diego the DMV office was a nightmare. I found a virtually unknown office in a little town about 7 miles away (Casa de Oro) and never had to wait more than 15-20 minutes again!
