As I recall a "Quad’ is where four school buildings meet. But I could be wrong on that.

I see nothing good or useful dispensing error to others.

In my school that was where the sports field was – the space between the four buildings.

This is almost like today’s Soup To Nutz comic.

At many Universities, the Quad has flowerbeds, shade trees and benches. It’s a place for the students to meet and relax.

Most frequently, an open area on a college/university campus surrounded by buildings, usually either four in number or forming a quadrilateral. Quadrangle is the term more commonly applied to the open area; hence, quad.
