My mother was a great cook and she made many things from scratch.
I am a good cook and I do heat up stuff in the microwave and make things from a mix.
I even bake cakes, using a mix, in the microwave. I do use a microwave safe tube pan for that.

My Gran is a wonderful lady, but a terrible cook. She’s so wonderful no one has the heart to tell her that her brownies have the texture of used chewing gum.

I always tell SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED that it’s not like my mother used to make.

I was horrified a few years ago by a TV ad in which Mommy is about to foist off some inferior meal on her kids when she relents and decides to make them something special: soup and a sandwich.
Since when did soup and a sandwich become special?
(As long as we’re talking about our mothers’ bad cooking, mine was awful too. I was 16 before I ever ate a salad, and almost all vegetables in our house were canned. But she WAS good at a few Polish dishes she learned from her mother, and I truly miss her kidney stew which I’ve never had since. Fortunately, there are enough places offering potato pancakes that I can easily satisfy that longing when it comes up every few years.)

My step-grandmother was an amazing cook. She made a couple of dishes- pepperoni spaghetti and honey chicken that I still remember to this day.

I did not realize what a good cook my mother was until I married my first wife.
