    Granted, it’s a comic, but shouldn’t that be World War I veteran?

    @Alexikakos

    There aren’t many WWI veterans left — the ones that are left probably aren’t driving anymore. WWII and Korea War veterans are also dying out rapidly and are advanced in age. I was in the army in the early 70s and, like dkram, my beard is just about complete grey & white now.

    I was in the Marines in the 70s and my gotee is gray, almost white and hair, it’s gone!
    So the beard fits well wth Uncle More!

    I think the last WWI vet died in the last year or so. WWII vets are in their late 80’s. My late husband was drafted durin the Korean conflict and he would be 84 now.

    @marvee

    Last February. Florence Green, who served in the Women’s Royal Air Force died Feb 4 2012, at the age of 110. The second-to-last was American Frank Buckles (also 110 when he died in 2011), followed by Canada’s John Babcock, who died in 2010 at 109. (I think the last Central Powers vet was Turkish vet Yakup Satar, who died at 110 in 2008, though I can’t find who the last Bulgarian WWI vet was.)

    I wonder if any of those guys that lied about their age to enlist in WW I are still alive? What was the youngest age that managed to slip in?
