Nancy was created by Ernie Bushmiller in the 1930s. Since 1995, the strip has been drawn and written in Bushmiller's classic style by Guy and Brad Gilchrist. Nancy is famed for its gentle humor and surrealistic sight gags. Nancy's childlike innocence never wavers. She remains a devoted friend to her pal Sluggo, and can be, depending on the situation, a conceited prima donna or a fun-loving, cute and cheeky little girl.

Except for the references to tweeting and texting, I’d say that this was the first Valley Girl.

I’m kinda worried about you, Guy.
Are you felling all right?

All this week we’ll be paying tribute to Ernie Bushmiller with some "Here comes…( that new kid)…jokes! Love Ernie and how he’d think of anything for a gag!

This makes four times you mentioned that and I still have no clue what you are talking about. This has a feel of early TV or a Johnny Carson feel to it. Are you saying that the old deceased writer of Nancy introduced a character “du jour” who made a one-off joke and was never seen again?

In a way. There are many, many recipes for gags. This is a favorite of mine that Ernie used. A character for one gag. Will they ever come back? Dunno! btw…..pretty much any recipe for a gag that has ever been thought of…it gets used when you’ve been writing them since 1980 like I have!

I think she’d make a great recurring “guest” character; but. she’s too much of a “one trick pony” to be a regular cast member
