Nancy debuted in the comic strip Fritzi Ritz by Ernie Bushmiller in 1933. Fritzi adopted her orphaned niece, who soon became the star. The strip's name changed to Nancy in 1938. We're ringing in the New Year with the history of Nancy! Nancy says, "It was a cold, snowy day in January when I first met 'Sluggo'---it was clear why he had that nickname---" Pow boy says, "haw haw" Sluggo says, "What's the big idea, pickin' on dat li'l girl, bud??" sock Nancy says, "How can I ever thank you?" Sluggo says, "You could make me lunch, kiddo--my name's 'Sluggo' Smith- what's yours?"
