   My six year old daughter just told me yesterday that not all bats use echolocation; I just sort of assumed they all did, but I had to admit I had no evidence to that effect. While she couldn’t give me specifics, I’m inclined (based on my experience with our diminutive radical empiricist) to believe her.

    Per good ol’ reliable Wikipedia, “In contrast to the microbats, the fruit bats do not, as a rule, use echolocation.” Tito looks kinda fruit battish to me. Then again, given the nature of the comic, he could be a vampire, in which case, you can ignore everything I said.

    Fruit bats do not use echolocation. Some can have a six-foot wingspan, too! Bats in general have very good eyesight, the microchiroptera generally use it to help hone in on their prey. Batcon.org is a great resource to learn all about these wonderful creatures.

    And even though this comic perpetuates a silly myth, I love the way Tito is drawn. Thank you Justin!

    I like the old school B&W strip Justin. There’s a lot you can do with shading that you can’t get with color. Compare Hitchcock’s Pyscho with the horrible color remake. I know comparing movies and comics are an apple and oranges kind of thing, but I think the principle is still appropriate.

    In todays comic, the first panel has an almost 3D depth to it, thanks to the expert job of shading you did. Sure, color gives you other options, but you have to be good to make B&W work. I vote yes!

    Yes, by all means, throw in a B&W every so often for flavor. Especially if a myth benefits from a film noir feeling. Or a “Kill the wabbit! Kill the wabbit! Kill the wabbit!” feeling. Or whatever. :)

    Form follows function in effective art. I prefer overall your color panels, but it’s fascinating to see what you can do in greyscale (as it were).
