Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie.

Too funny. It’s a shame they didn’t have reality TV back then. Imagine what Ed and Melissa could have done with that.

And don’t forget the “annoying-yet-semi-charming-family” neighbors

Why the GENERIC SITCOM #14 title?

You forgot that bland 3rd kid unaccountably ages three years between seasons in an attempt to make him/her more interesting.

Reality TV shows were going strong before My Cage ever started. There’s been a number of strips that reference those shows.

Did we ever have enlarged versions of My Cage? It’d be nice to zoom in just a little!

Time is a funny thing. For some reason I was thinking this strip was older. I remember reading it in my newspaper a long time ago, but apparently not that long ago.

Sometimes the third kid goes up the stairs during the first season and never comes down again.

Everyone keeps forgetting to put “Reality” in quotes since it really isn’t anymore real than any sitcom.
Don’t you wish every show would be up front about what they are? But then nearly all things are based upon other previous things anyway.

When this was first printed it was one of our most shared strips. I always wanted to do something with a bad TV station fill of characters. Kind of like SCTV meets UHF.

As Maude (remember her?) would’ve put it, “You’ve just set a new high in lows.” No wonder so many shared it – this one qualifies as one of the weirdest mainstream strips I’ve ever seen.

And with curious timing, another “father-as-idiot” portrayal, and on Father’s Day no less. I doubt you actually intended the timing, though.

On Happy Days it was the first kid who did that. Chuck, the oldest brother just was never heard from again. Not even mentioned as being away in college or the Army.
