I can’t understand Mutt either.

It’s awkward language like that that first led me to think that this is a translation from another language. I commented the other day that I think the current M&J comics are translated from the Spanish version, Benitin y Eneas.

Well done, Jeff… That’s a BRILLIANT one.

He’s talking about how people use words like “ain’t”!
And now they’ve put it in the dictionary! The English language is being destroyed!

This the kind of cartoon the late Bill Mauldin used to call an’ ‘evergreen’. It was relevant when it was first published, it’s relevant now, and in another ten years it will still be relevant

“Ain’t” ain’t a word. They just put it in the dictionary to appease us hillbillys.
We still use “hain’t”, though.

The word “ain’t” has been in the dictionary for at least 70 years that I am aware of.

I agree. Given the way people text each other using abbreviations or shortened, corrupted spelling of words, it’s a wonder anyone will understand each other.

That’s how the English language came into being: Just adopting words from any source and making them it’s own. It has many irregular verbs and ridiculous spellings, and in spite of all that, has become the language of international commerce, and the most common second language in the world.
