    While, in general, I agree with the son about the wisdom of a dog for his mom, his reason for not wanting the dog sound more selfish and not necessarily of his mother. He seems more worried about being stuck with the dog after his mother dies, which he apparently expects to happen at any time. Not an unrealistic expectation, per se.

    His concern has got to be his mother first and whether she wants the dog – though again, as I said yesterday, that should have been ascertained before the gift was given. Just decent curtesy.
