    I remember back in the 1960’s when the companies were lobbying to be allowed to lay cable all over the place. To get the public on their side they said, “And since you pay for the service, there will be no commercials!” This back in the era when commercials were about 10% of the broadcast time instead of 40% like today.

    Commercial time was about 15% in the 1950s, about 18% in the 1970s and about 30% today.
