Haiti is a perfect example of social Darwinism. Those who can’t compete, die. When the factories close, I hope they have a long time to reflect on the consequences of their greed. When tens of thousands have no job, anything is better than nothing. I admire those in the Obama economy who have found part time work rather than get on Obama’s dole. I doubt that public assistance in Haiti is even remotely like ours.

Collectivists are so wrong and naive, and it’s so sad that their ideas produce such human misery. They still believe that using government force to implement their flawed moral imperatives is justified. It’s the opposite of liberty, and the trail of suffering they create just grows…

You nailed it. If people want hard physical proof they only need to look at neighboring countries Costa Rica and Nicaragua. One thriving and capitalistic they other poverty stricken and socialistic.

When I was in college I always wondered what it is that economists do. I am still not sure but it seems to involve a large number of charts, graphs, arcane and unintelligible groups of letters and prognostications that rarely, if ever, come true. The theories fly hither and yon, are reviled by some, lauded by others and put everyone else to sleep. I am not an economist, social scientist or any of their off shoots. There probably isn’t anything wrong with reading the weighty tomes of economics, but it would be a good idea to wash your hands afterwards . What is often forgotten is that people tend to work for themselves. If that means working in an office, a factory a field or whatever then so be it. Whatever the job may be the owner will pay you whatever the job is worth or however little he can get away with paying. There isn’t much altruism involved. Like Mark Twain said: “Don’t appeal to a man’s better nature because he may not have on.” So basically its everyone for themselves and devil take the hindmost. When as a young man I sought the wisdom of age I asked my grandfather what the important things in life are. He answered,“Always keep your back to the wall, always keep your powder dry and never try to draw to an inside straight.” Then he added, “There are two other things; always have a back door and a fast horse.” Over the years I have realized that he was mostly right, except that the landlord of the apartment building fusses a good deal about the horse.

What about all the Scandinavian and neighboring countries that are socialistic and thriving? Costa Rica has no military, was ranked by the New Economics Foundation in 2009 as the greenest country in the world, has announced plans to be completely carbon neutral by 2021 and banned recreational hunting in 2012. Costa Rica- thriving, capitalistic and one of the most liberal countries in the world.
