    Whatever would they do with all those gourds? Make birdhouses?

    That is the Trans Pacific Partnership (a.k.a.TPP), another job killer like NAFTA & CAFTA. It also allows corporations to get around environmental laws, labor laws and other laws and regulations which protect workers and the otherwise marginalized. The Obama Administration is pushing for fast track authority which, by mandating an up or down vote without any Congressional modifications usurps the power of the legislative branch. You need to contact your rep. and urge her or him to vote against fast track authority and then to vote against TPP unless it has major modifications. It’s another power grab by the rich and powerful (as if they don’t have enough money & power already-how much is enough for these people?) which will pretty much screw everyone else.

    All emotion and no logic. Typical liberal stuff. No thought of addressing consequences unintended or otherwise. I have pointed out things like this, from my personal experience: The last time they raised the minimum wage, a McDonald’s Quarter Pounder meal went from $4.99 to $5.49 the next day. Cause and effect which should be obvious to the meanest intelligence. No free energy, no free lunch and no free ride. And, no more McDonalds. At that point, there were cafes, Mexican restaurants or Chinese where I could get a full meal for a dollar more. It’s all about the benjamins. ALL businesses pass on the cost of operation to the consumer. Unions are only able to extort money if there are more jobs than workers. Haiti has too many people. Fire the agitators and fill the position the next day. It’s the right thing to do.

    @ rick scott, you nailed it. Unfortunately the pie in the sky people have no logic.

    In one breath she will tell you how wonderful unions are, in the next how oppressive.
    Bosses “do nothing but oppress”… but can(should) we all work only for ourselves, and hire no one? Does a good “worker” turn evil if their business grows and they hire someone?
    How could steel get made by small groups of workers? Or computer chips?
    Ultimately, the push to small groups of workers doing only “sustainable” things translates to “Lets all go back to low-tech subsistence farming in small villages.” And since this can’t be done with todays population, it also means “And, who is going to volunteer to die for this? We need about 9 out of ten…”

    That usually doesn’t happen. Why? Because when you pay your workers what they are worth, and can afford your product, they tend to purchase more and business increases not decreases.

    @rick scott

    Now how do you know which came first on this? You know that labor costs constitute among the smallest part of over all business costs? Around 11%.
