Not true of the last established union I was in. I was and would be proud to be a union man.

Everything is trending towards increased individualism. Ccollectivism and group activities are fading. Good riddance!

In the hit new movie “Elysium,” the world solves all of its complex socio-political issues by having two men in robo-suits beat each other senseless.
Call it the “Punchies for Healthcare” approach.
Do you really believe that slaying a couple dragons will cure all the ills in your life? That a few straw men are the only force standing between you and true happiness?.
What happens when you tear them all to pieces, after spitting the straw from your teeth you find that … nothing much has changed?
What evildoers will you then create to kill?

Unions are political organizations. They enjoy their best success when they can influence the local or national political process, either by voting or through influencing the votes of non-members in the larger society.
But what a union does with said power once held depends on the nature of its own being. If your union is mostly autocratic, it will act to serve the interests of the elite within its own structure. If the union is actually democratic (very rare) then workers will see more of a benefit.
