15,000 barrels spilt in train wreck. Not a peep from environmentalists.
1/3rd that spilt from a pipeline, cry cry cry.
New modern safer Keystone Pipeline would replace flow through much of both, but we don’t want that.
The real goal is to keep oil prices high, which is really the only way to change energy consumption patterns. The greenies finally have that Econ101 lesson right.
Why is any of this a surprise? Obama told us in 2008, in a , that he wanted gas prices to be very high, just to go up gradually, not spike.
Maybe it is a surprise because the spasmatic fit of honesty is so rare, no one saw any reason to pay attention?

So what does your car run on MacMillan? Do you sort out those nasty electrons from the fossil fuel, and nuclear power plants before they get to your house?

When you are stuck without alternatives, what can you do? You can’t walk or bicycle anywhere without motorized transportation.

The pipeline is to deliver oil to the gulf coast, where it is to be exported. It is not for domestic use. So we take the environmental risk forlittle or no gain (15k temporary jobs, a couple of hundred permanent jobs, and permanent environmental risk).

The number of temporary construction jobs is closer to 2-3K and the damage is going to be so bad that it is considered a red hot GHG generator. Producing 4X the GHG output of normal crude drilling. Only this isn’t even a liquid, it is bitumen and it is melted both by heat and chemically then pumped out polluting million of gallons of precious fresh water. Clear cut forests, spills like in Arkansas with no real chance of clean up of the serious contamination. And at the end of it it will be refined and shipped over seas for sales.

So, leftie-greenies, how much will it cost to ship the oil by other methods? How much environmental impact will shipping it by diesel powered engines, in small (relatively) batches? The oil WILL be extracted and it WILL be sold, to someone. Better the pipeline goes to the west coast- the Chicoms will pick it up there.

Actually walking and bicycling are by definition non motorized transportation.
