Government by popularity contest is sad. Voting for a political party that shares your values and interests – and encourages your involvement – would make more sense.

Sadly, lotta’ truth in the ’toon, Mike. It would be nice to see the American people more informed, aware, alert, and well, intelligent.(on all sides, including “independents” and “Libertarians”)

The U.S. system of voting ensures the two party system and selection by popularity contest. The problem isn’t that parties don’t share our values and interests. With just two parties there is too many interests for one party to cover and no way for minorities within each party to have real influence. Since individual politicians have to constantly run for office (In popularity contests) it may look like they only care about themselves. It’s not true of all.

Seriously, Obama owned Romney in this one. Just look at the faces of the Romney clan after the first and second debates…the difference is quite telling.

Jimmy Fallon apparently had a “man in the street interview” with people who gave their impressions of the debate between Ann Romney and Michelle Obama. A debate which never occurred. Saw four of the “viewers” some of whom were quite taken with one of the speakers or the other.

And 5% of people in a recent poll thought Romney killed Osama bin Ladin. Oh, the humanity.

Stephen Colbert interviewed a Congresswoman who represented one of New York’s boroughs. He asked her what she would say if she could go back in time to the late 1800s to the discussions about unifying New York City. She answered, “Let me go.”

He asked, did they have slavery in New York in 1896? She stated they did. He asked who owned slaves in New York. She answered, “The Dutch”. By the bye, she is a Democrat.

As long as the American public can know who “celebrities” are just by their first names, but don’t know where Canada is, we are doomed to their choices.

It’s really sad that a politician can’t say: I DON’T KNOW. That would kill their election chances.

Very true. Everyone running should be given air time. And yes, people should actually listen (and perhaps look at past actions over current words) before making up their minds.
