We can’t even be polite on the internet, what makes anyone or the NRA think arming us will make it better? And we are one of the most armed societies on the planet, so where are the manners?
In their dreams.

Until the root causes of violence are dealt with the honest, basically rational citizen should have the right to self defense.

What is so warped about US that we can’t be less armed – like other free societies? Laws changed it in other countries where citizens enjoy at least equal rights as here. Does that simply mean we are less law-abiding?

Problem is, once you give that basically rational citizen a handgun, they become less rational.

Always armed only occasionally irrational.

In real life, the police can’t always save the day.
[]
In some instances, such as home invasions, the situation is so swift that if a person waits for the cops to show up they’re dead.
[]
In others, the police are either too far away, too under-staffed, or too incompetent to be relied upon to save the day.
[]
I live in Texas. Much of the state is still rural, and as such if there aren’t any cops on active patrol in a region then in a crisis situation it can be some time before help arrives.

The Kaiser Family Foundation would like to disagree with you.

You see, as of 2008, Washington D.C. was the #2 deadliest place in the nation as far as firearm-related fatalities were concerned… in spite of having the strictest gun laws in the nation. From 2005 – 2007, it was #1.
[]
In contrast, gun-friendly Texas is a mere .6 above the national average, while even friendlier Utah is .9 below the national average.
[]
In other words, the legal availability of guns in and of itself isn’t a reliable factor concerning firearm fatality rates. Instead, there are numerous other factors to consider.

and whoever disagrees with that statement can politely disagree with my S & W…right?
DevilsNight said, 11 months ago
That’s right because you know that all the criminals would say “Oh NO know guns are illegal so now we have to turn them in” and all crime in the world would stop and everyone will hold hands and sing Cum by yah .

It’s people thinking like you that motivates me to stay armed, because your ilk will not lift a hand to prevent a takeover by those anarchists bent on our destruction. You can thank me later if you are still alive.

“An armed society is a safe society.” I have no problems with gun ownership, especially if you live in a rural or high crime area. However, I have a number of Somali immigrants (refugees) in my neighborhood who would disagree with that statement.

Once you’ve played the “Do it for the kids” card, you’ve admitted you don’t have a rational argument.

I have the same Right to protect my family…… that you have to Criticize the Government. Take away one and the other follows.

People made that claim before the concealed carry law passed here in Texas. We have had very few incidences of rational citizens with CCWs behaving irrationally. And the crime rate has actually decreased since the law was enacted. Personally I think open carry would be a more effective in a polite society, but not everyone agrees with Robert Heinlein’s idea. . . . ☻

Heinlein was a great story-teller and not much of a philosopher.
