God this is such a crime

    guilty, BP guilty, guilty, guilty

so corporations are individuals? it’s court time.

i hope your ceos, planners, decision makers, lying quality control and safety officials, go to prison - all of you except the workers under you

If the companies had been as restricted as the “regulators” and inspectors - over the past decade- it might not have happened. Those royalties paid to the states didn’t exactly make them the “poor innocents” they now claim to be either.

I have spent time in California, Texas and in the Gulf of Mexico, both on the beaches and scuba diving….. The beaches and the water were always clean!

Ten years ago, I spent the weekend in Corpus Christi Texas. I had heard there were oil spills there; however the water was clear with at least 4 or 5 feet of visibility. We spent a day, most of it in the water jet skiing and we had NO problems with oil or any other grim/dirt/filth. However, there was no fish on the pier, we had to purchase shrimp from a truck……..scary! It had to be farmed fish, because the truck was filled with fish and there wasn’t a fish smell….

Limited Liability…What a con. Sue the company, not me! Forget the fact that I can drive the company into the ground and if I kill some people or ruin livelyhoods too bad. Its the cost of doing business.

Oh! And give tax breaks while you’re at it.

Sorry Mike, but you can’t have it both ways. All the clean air regs the EPA forced on car manufacturers actually reduces fuel efficiency. A significant MPG gain could only now be attained by reducing vehicle weight, which usually makes them less safe.

Why do you think the 1978 Diesel rabbit got 57 MPG and now Toyota brags about their hybrids that only get 51 MPG. I know auto shops that specialize in ripping out the mandated exhaust scrubbing systems put in the new Dodge diesel trucks because they reduce efficiency by 4 to 5 MPG.

Government regulations often do more harm than good regardless of good intentions.

M Kitt we only pay for things big business effs up. You know this man!

What I was saying was that at one point a corporation’s C.E.O. were held accountable for anything that endangered the public. Now a days its all about ruining the company, getting rich, and not face a lick of jail time.

The lifestyle americans choose bounds them to be middle east and Big Oil’s b1tch…and then collapse after oil is gone.

“Funny thing, Redeemed, the Europeans have stronger regs and also better gas mileage on the average than we do. Wonder what they know that we don’t?”

Simple. Most of their cars are diesel. Something we can’t have here because of stupid California emissions requirements.

Doubly wrong, redeemd. Cars now are FAR safer. Even Lee Iococca says so. Weight isn’t nearly as important as strength, not to mention things like airbags. I know someone who t-boned a 1960s Detroit Iron Chevy with a 1980s Toyota Celica at 50 miles an hour - both walked away, but the Toyota could still drive.

MM, they showed and actual crash test between a 59 Chevy and a new Malibu. All in the old one dead, new one, no serious injuries. Heavy definitely is NOT SAFER!

I saw an episode of I think 20-20 on a problem they discovered on classic Mustangs (if rear-ended, the pipe on the fuel tank can catch fire and flip, frying the driver). They went to Iococca, of course, who didn’t even try to defend the Mustang. Instead, he said essentially “we didn’t know squat about safety then. If you want a safer car, buy a new one.”

^That’s the same thing Ford said when they commissioned Firestone to make cheap tires for their Expedition S.U.V.s.

Its cheaper to pay off (and fight) lawsuits than it is to recall every car and replace the tires.

“Wrong, redeemed. They do have good diesels, but even their other vehicles are more efficient than ours and they DO control emissions. Believe me, I’ve been driving enough in Europe to know.”

So we should be like Europe and use diesel and nuclear power? Sorry, the liberals in this country are much too smart to allow that.

MM: My statement about weight reduction had nothing to do with legacy vs new cars. You incorrectly assumed that because of the paragraph that followed. I should have been more clear.
