    Love the Obama statistics. At the start we will spend spend spend spend to create/save jobs… by paying off those that are out of a job, then when that money runs out, we can blame the other guy and drop them out of the unemployment numbers. Plus we can say we are not spending as much this time around as compared to our temporary spending when we 1st started.
    Hey Obama, Detroit wants magic green jobs!

    To have access to reasonable healthcare and not live in poverty equates to a welfare state?

    @Doctor Warbucks

    “…… But a liberal has trouble with big words like “temporary.”
    I don’t have any problem with big words like ‘brain-washed,’ however.

    As long as people are collecting unemployment, they MUST prove that they have submitted applications for employment to places accepting such applications. Stop the unemployment, and, if there is no reasonable place to apply, if the cost of an Internet café or a stamp is far more than the expected benefit of trying to apply when there are no jobs, most won’t bother. And when that happens, they are no longer unemployed, and the unemployment rate will drop.

    Of course, those losing benefits will buy less, and the stores that had been selling to them will have to lay people off, but as long as those people can’t collect unemployment and can’t find anywhere that is accepting applications for employment, they also won’t be unemployed. So they’ll drop off the unemployment rolls and the unemployment rate will drop.

    Next, we have to outlaw soup kitchens and food pantries, and make it absolutely clear that if those who lost their jobs want to eat and have a place to sleep, they need to go into service as maids, valets, footmen, etc. in return for scraps from their betters’ table and a bunk in the basement.

    And then Decent Americans can relax, their servant problem finally solved!

    (Note that both Democrat and Republican lawmakers and executives strongly support this reformation of US social services to a much better system that will finally solve every Decent American’s most painful and persistent problem.)

    Extended unemployment benefits are, dollar for dollar, the most effective way to help the economy, according to the CBO and those economists who can do math. Naturally, the GOP prefers huge tax breaks for rich people, which have been proven to be the least effective way to create jobs. The GOP is going to raise taxes on airplane travel this week, for us at least. The tax break for private jets stays in effect, of course.

    Aren’t the repugs the ones that fought stopping the “temporary” tax cuts that Bush installed? Seems it goes both ways.

    There are plenty of jobs. They just don’t pay as much as unemployment so the lazy won’t take them.

    Being noted as a “bipartisan” agreement, and no, not a very good one, the Republicans holding for all the cuts are going to blame Patty Murray and the Dems for all the cuts???

    Of course, one of my favorites is Doc Hastings calling bills that all but two (blue dog) Democrats vote AGAINST, is “bipartisan approval”. Even the House members on the right are adept in “Newspeak”, but very unable to handle the truth. (Where’s Jack Nicholson when you need his voice?)

    We have to cut benefits for those people. To do otherwise will destroy their incentives.
    Giving money to rich people through tax breaks and subsidies, enabled by those cuts, is absolutely necessary. After all, we need to give them incentives.
