    With every mention of repealing Obamacare, Ms Ima …. oh, never mind.

    If they were not voting against Obama care they would have to be solving real problems like fixing the tax code, passing immigration reform, repairing infrastructure, promoting R&D, fixing education, etc. etc.

    The halls of congress have turned into an advertising agency for political campaigns featuring bad, funny-looking actors.

    Hope is gone for Congress to act on ANYTHING; sad for all of us.

    Socialized medicine failed everywhere it was tried. Yet the left thinks ( as always ) they can get away with it.

    Failed? That’s not how I heard it!

    Better results for less money is “failure”? Only if your definition of “success” is putting more cash in the pockets of CEOs.

    You say, “Socialized medicine failed everywhere it was tried. Yet the left thinks ( as always ) they can get away with it.” That’s just not true.

    @Orthodox Catholic

    You’re one of the few people here to profess religious beliefs and then STICK to them 100%,rather than parroting a party line. I disagree with you often- sometimes harshly- but I’ll give you full respect for being consistent and honest.
    I’m also sorry to hear about your wife. That kind of thing is one of the reasons I agitate for a serious overhaul of this country’s healthcare system, despite the yammering of people who believe that “for-profit” always means “more efficient”.

    I’ve read bits and pieces of the PPACA. One of the odder things I ran into was all the requirements for posting nutritional information about the products in vending machines on vending machines for each product.

    2 questions. Where has socialized medicine failed? If our health system is so much better, why does it need major change?

    @Orthodox Catholic

    I would like to add my thanks to your posting your thoughts. As a practicing optometrist, I have been saying the same thing for years.

    Obamacare has too many choices: medicare, medicaid, private insurance, state health exchanges, federal health exchange, ERISA plans…..a crazy quilt that is built to do nothing but add a little “catch-22” to the mix. Plus, since Medicare and Medicaid subcontract to insurance companies, it’s all gravy to them. We are forced to give them our money, but they are not forced to provide us with reasonable care.

    Single payer is the correct answer. Anyone who says it fails is not looking at two points: 1) our current system is failing on its own, so staying with this one is not an option
    2) socialized medicine has been used for so many years in so many countries that they have refined its inconsistencies, and we can evaluate each system and learn from their mistakes and the things they got right.

    Do not expect anything from Congress except posing. We, the people, will have to demand it. Do we have the guts? Will we make the time? How much does it matter to us?

    What’s happening with the Kardashians? Anybody know?

    First of all, I am sorry for your wifes difficult end time. I too am for a single payer system, but to say the affordable care act has ZERO choice is just not fair or true. There are facets of all systems which leave us little choice.

    I always appreciate your thoughtful, nuanced comments. Anyone who thinks there is a black and white answer to any political and social challenge is delusional from the outset.
