I wonder what might happen if the USPS was taken private, like Fed-Ex, or UPS?
    Seriously…any thoughts?

A competitive privatized Post Office would operate with a profit motive and therefore could track its expenses and revenues. It would succeed or its
    competitors would.

Don’t privatize just remove arcane congressional “oversight”.

The sad truth is that the lame duck republican congress of 2006 decided to wreck the USPS and they accomplished their mission. No business could survive with the restrictions on raising prices that congress has hamstrung the USPS with, I’d love to see UPS or Fedex deliver mail for under 50 cents or limit price increases to the inflation rate.

Our postal rates for first class mail are about half of what they are in the rest of the world. Maybe a move in that direction could help?

That is right brother, Kill that CO2. Since my 3 a week delivery idea is being met with old loony liberals that want mommy government to do everything for them I am now targeting the green weenies. Just think how much of the demon CO2 you could slay by keeping the delivery fleet on the road 3 days and not 6. Plus you up the bulk rate just enough to so you can deliver the junk mail 3 days with out adding more delivery trucks and there you have it. Less CO2 and less Bulk junk mail in the trash! So come on green weenies who is with me! This could save the earth more than any pay off, I mean “stimulus” Obama could dream up for his magic green job smoke screen. It would save more money and CO2 then the our tax cash for your Clunker payoff scheme.
    This could be big!

The reason they are failing is exactly what you stated. The prices are too low and cannot sustain the business. Please tell me how they can keep in the black AND keep the 50 cent letters? Many of us want to know!

Can you show us any government operations that were “privatized” that have cut costs instead of being used as profiteering schemes for insiders which raised the government and taxpayer’s costs?

I realize there are still some reasons people mail letters, bills etc. The problem is we are trying to find a way around the progress of the Internet in electronic bill pay, on line banking, email communication, etc. There isn’t one that can maintain the daily delivery profitably. USPS makes money delivering parcels and almost breaks even by delivering all the junk mail they do with the regular mail. They can’t and shouldn’t be expected to deliver a letter for 50 cents. If UPS, DHL or FEDEx took over private delivery it would undoubtedly go up in cost and decrease in frequency of delivery. That discussion has been brought forth many times. The unions fight it tooth and nail and congress want’s to maintain the “nostalgia” of the post office in smaller communities.

This brings up another question regarding the ACA, the administration costs for medicare, VA, etc run about 3-5%.
The administration expenses for privatized healthcare organizations in 2008 pre-ACA were 52% of each premium dollar when lobbyists, CEO salaries & bonus’s, dividends, and peripheral expenses are accounted for.
Do we really want to “Privatize” more or utilize more our tax dollars to maintain real living standards for the American people?
I’ve been posting this article on the biggest banks derivative burdens lately, it gives you a real world understanding of just how much hedged (air money) is hanging over our heads with these TBTF banks.

“Since my 3 a week delivery idea is being met with old loony liberals that want mommy government to do everything for them I am now targeting the green weenies.”
Your idea is met with opposition for one simple reason there harley, it’s not due to wanting “mommy government”, it is because you have time and again demonstrated that you are an idiot to be disregarded. Now if you can start being coherent, rational, based in reality and civil, then you will be regarded with at least some semblance of relevance. Just thought you might like to know. You can’t change something that is wrong or repugnant if you don’t know others think that.
