A competitive privatized Post Office would operate with a profit motive and therefore could track its expenses and revenues. It would succeed or its
    competitors would.

Don’t privatize just remove arcane congressional “oversight”.

That is right brother, Kill that CO2. Since my 3 a week delivery idea is being met with old loony liberals that want mommy government to do everything for them I am now targeting the green weenies. Just think how much of the demon CO2 you could slay by keeping the delivery fleet on the road 3 days and not 6. Plus you up the bulk rate just enough to so you can deliver the junk mail 3 days with out adding more delivery trucks and there you have it. Less CO2 and less Bulk junk mail in the trash! So come on green weenies who is with me! This could save the earth more than any pay off, I mean “stimulus” Obama could dream up for his magic green job smoke screen. It would save more money and CO2 then the our tax cash for your Clunker payoff scheme.
    This could be big!

The reason they are failing is exactly what you stated. The prices are too low and cannot sustain the business. Please tell me how they can keep in the black AND keep the 50 cent letters? Many of us want to know!

I realize there are still some reasons people mail letters, bills etc. The problem is we are trying to find a way around the progress of the Internet in electronic bill pay, on line banking, email communication, etc. There isn’t one that can maintain the daily delivery profitably. USPS makes money delivering parcels and almost breaks even by delivering all the junk mail they do with the regular mail. They can’t and shouldn’t be expected to deliver a letter for 50 cents. If UPS, DHL or FEDEx took over private delivery it would undoubtedly go up in cost and decrease in frequency of delivery. That discussion has been brought forth many times. The unions fight it tooth and nail and congress want’s to maintain the “nostalgia” of the post office in smaller communities.

Unserious answer: Domino’s Pizza – delivery in 30 minutes or less.
Serious answer: Fed-Ex. I hate brown uniforms.

Don’t forget to keep federal employees from getting a raise. Go GOP, keep cutting.

Or the Post Office could convert to electric plug-in vehicles (how far do they go a day on a city route? 20 miles?) , get rid of the old, junker jeepster-looking things and stimulate the economy at the same time!

Look here is the deal. I want to save the post office. I really do. But you can not run it like it is 1990. I will ask, do we really NEED 6 day a week delivery to residential housing? Please name me one thing that has to be there 6 days out of the week? My mail used to be MY mail. Now it is 75% JUNK! The post office is going to lose if that is all it has! I am really offing up a real solution. 1. Tues, Thurs, Sat. Home delivery. Mon-Sat pick up and special delivery. 2. end the mail box monopoly.
The only real argument I have heard against what I have wrote is “I need my meds” and “You can not do that” but not 1 person even you has given me a good reason to as why not! 3 days a week would save the post office!
So I am going out on the attack, I am trying to stir up the green weenies who just love to say we have to much and must cut down this or that. Well here is your chance. You can save a whole lot of CO2 by cutting home delivery in half. You can save a little in the junk mail by raising the rate just enough to make sure you do not over load the 3 day capacity. It is a win win! Save money save the from the demon CO2.
