    Burroughs was an interesting fellow. He actually got away with killing his second wife by shooting her through the head. The details are vague in my head just now, but it seems it happened in a Mexican bar and the shooting was accidental, a consequence of trying to shoot a glass or something off her head while he was wasted.

    Don’t forget the third element that would possess guns in a society such as was described – criminals.

    The fundamental condition for such a society to function for the safety and protection of it’s members would be the existence of a profound trust in the police and in the military by the members of such a society. I won’t deny that such an arrangement could never exist, but It’s obvious that we are nowhere close to having that now…primarily because politicians (aka ‘elected officials’ an’ appointed bureaucrats) control both groups. Politicians are inherently untrustworthy.
    Of THAT fact, we have an overabundance of evidence.
