I hardly think that Dr. King would be so shallow as to support any president simply because of the color of their skin. Methinks the good Dr. would be profoundly disappointed in the social situation of the day where “racism” is thrown around like an old towel. Sad.

Look at individuals. Black and white are both all right,
along with all the skin tones in between. Individuals make the world go round.

He got elected 4 years ago. So America would be prejudice if we hadn’t been stupid enough to extend his lack of leadership?

You can usually tell whether a person is a Republican or a Democrat by the meanness of his
    (or her) comments.

That’s an interesting observation. Have you read the comments from both sides of this discussion? The vitriol from either element is practically bloodthirsty it is so mean spirited at times. Oh wait, this is the funnies, we can’t take any of these people seriously, it’s all fantasy! Phew, had me worried there for a minute, to think that Americans could be still so bitterly divided when our fearless leaders have pledged to unify the country. Oh wait, I forgot, that was the 2008 election.

    OK – reality check, here…
This is the editorial area, where opinion IS the currency of the realm.
“…our fearless leaders have pledged to unify the country.”…
Well, the truth hurts, but our leaders are far from fearless an’ politicians will pledge anything to get elected. They hardly ever follow-through on their pledges…that’s why it’s a “stop th’ presses” moment when a campaign promise has been kept – these are rare occasions, indeed.

MLK has been gone for 45 years. No one can know what his thoughts and positions would be on the racial climate of 2013 America, other than to suppose that he would understandably be disappointed with many of the statistics cited here.
Would he have voted for Obama in 2008 and 2012? – of course. Would he have rallied the black voting bloc in America to vote for Obama? – of course. MLK was no racist, and he was a man of peace – and he was gone too soon.

An’ by the way, “bhinkle” comments speak the truth. Those statistics are real an’ accurate. If they are also embarrassing an’ an indictment of the lack of progress made by American blacks with every opportunity laid out before them, that’s really just too bad. No where else in the world would their opportunities for self-reliance, responsibility, and success be as great as in America. Yes, indeed, the Confederacy DID lose the Civil War, and the institution of slavery was abolished 150 years ago…I think everybody knows that by now…
His quotes of a couple of iconic lines from two famous TV comedies obviously ruffled some feathers here, but those are well-known public domain quotes an’ not necessarily racist nor bigoted. Put on your big boy pants an’ grow up – this IS an opinion forum, after all. And it’s very obvious that many participants don’t always subscribe to the ‘rules of civil discourse.’
There’s often not a boatload of tolerance shown here for differing points of view, but since this IS an OPINION column, name-calling an’ the slinging of insults at someone with whom you disagree is just a reflection of your own inability to articulate a civil counter argument…
When you’ve lost your cool an’ control to the extent that you refer to another person here as an “opinionated bigot and racist,” – then it is YOU that should earn a flag.

BHO is not the embodiment of MLK’s dream. Rather the nightmare… unless one only goes by race (what MLK fought against)

Isn’t it amazing how you can go to virtually any political strip about a black man and find the racists frothing at the mouth? Just as they have always been.

Obama brought us universal health care.
He realized 193 of his promises during his first term.
He got us out of the war in Iraq, he ended the torture that Bush was using, techniquics that came from Nazi regime.
He has done many good things in spite of the obstruction the GOP gave him.
There has never been a congress so dedicated to doing nothing just to make a president look bad.
I think Dr. MLK would be very proud.

Omnius, why don’t you try addressing Bhinkle’s individual points? Would that be because you’re not able to?

My guess is Lincoln and MLK would be very annoyed by the continued existence of racism in the United States in the year 2013…

Word has it the inauguration of the 3rd term of Jimmy Carter will cater to 1 million less people than the 2nd. I’m going to work tomorrow and not bother with celebrating the destruction of America.

Those stats are virtue of their socioeconomic status, not their skin colour.
Racist is to say it is so because they are black.

    You are so-o-o-o-o right, Ken!

Dr. King would have voted AGAINST the socialist in the White House.
