Religion can rationalize anything to keep you a sheep in the fold. And, seeing as how most people want to be sheep, then it works out quite well. However, the world is controlled by those who aren’t sheep…..

I thought (as I’m sure Mr. O does) that your religion was a private thing. That all are free to believe and worship as you like. AND, that government has no place in it. I don’t care if he is Rastafarian, his policies still suck.

I recommend the local Salvation Army Church for our president. It’s modest, simple and democratic. http://www.insiderpages.com/storefinder/results/salvationarmy/Washington/DC

    Not in U.S. politics.

The fundamentalists are trying to turn the U.S. into a deranged Vatican City- Article Six of the Constitution needs to be printed and/or announced in/on every news article dealing with “religion” in America-

It would be nice if some folks wearing their religion on their sleeves would stuff a large cork in their mouths.

Rumsfeld, Cheney, and yes, Bush, announced their true religion with every bomb they dropped, and every defen$e contract they issued to their “friends”.

Bruce, I also believe that government has no place in religion, and I believe that religion has no place in government.

“Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s, and render unto the Lord that which is the Lord’s.” – Jesus of Nazareth

Clark, I think it’s likely that we HAVE had an atheist president or two in the last 200+ years, they’ve just not been public about it.

“In private I believe in none of the gods, and neither do you. In public, I believe in them all.” – Sempronius Gracchus (to a young Julius Caesar), “Spartacus”

Absolutely, as are medical and financial data, and etc, however, if one wants to be elected to a public office, that right to privacy has been abrogated, in many cases by a statute.

That said, while it doesn’t matter much what set of doctrines a dog-catcher believes in, it is imperative for the electorate to know what pooooop somebody having any discretion over The Nation believes in.

The fact that 0bama set for 20-years in a pew, absorbing some of the most vile anti-Americanism is quite evident in his actions … .as it was predicted by some of us that did our homework before voting.
