Toyota kept their problems hidden for years and either fixed them inhouse without a recall or denied them completely. Remember the Japanese won the second world war. It is not in their culture to admit defeat or that they screwed up.

One in 200,000 chance of a problem if you own one of the “affected” models, so the toon just shows the ad man running the “press”.

Does anyone seriously think that this will hurt Toyota in the long run? I have no doubt that people who owned Corvairs and Pintos still buy Chevys and Fords. I’ve never owned a Toyota, but wouldn’t hesitate to buy one in the future over this.

“Now make a car that everyone wants to drive …”

Up until a year or so ago, GM outsold all auto-companies.

Problem is that they lost money on a majority of cars made in the US - thanks to the UAW Cadillac employment contracts . .

Now, that 0bama has given the UAW a good chunk of GM, will see if they can be more capitalistic.

Yeah cause in December 08 the right was screaming that GM didn’t make the cars people want (so was the left) so let them rot in bankruptsie. the market had spoken!

I remember because I was saying, “Excuse me, but every major car manufacturer in the world makes an SUV because that’s what people want. And who invented the SUV?”

(although my contention is that the SUV is actually a reaction to Toyota Pickup trucks which were used to get around the US car import quotas, and were sold to young men tricked out with stereo and bucket seats and lights and dials and hanging tumblin dice. The pickups, not the young men… sort of)

Again though, GM failed because the banks stopped lending money to anybody but petroleum speculators.
